Sam Smith (ft. Normani) - Dancing With A Stranger | Song Review

Sam Smith is an English singer-songwriter. They rose to fame in 2012 when they were featured on Disclosure's breakthrough single 'Latch', which peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. They also featured on Naughty Boy's single, 'La La La' in 2013 which scored Sam Smith his first Number 1 single.

They later released their debut album in 2015 called 'In The Lonely Hour' which spawned smash hits such as 'Money On My Mind', 'Lay Me Down' and many others. Following from the release of their debut album; Sam released a 'Drowning Shadows Edition' of their debut album in 2015 and their most recent album 'The Thrill Of It All' in 2017.

Sam Smith is a worldwide success and has now released a new single with Normani called 'Dancing With A Stranger'.

The song is a bit more upbeat than what we are used too with Sam Smith. They usually release gentle soul music. You could say this collaboration is a mixture of each of the artists' sounds. Soul-full vocals from the pair of them make this song a dancing tune but also a relaxing song - two elements that I love.

'Dancing With A Stranger' is all about coping with loneliness and trying to get over a past-lover. As for the lyrics, Sam Smith released a statement to Capitol Records explain that this song 'bottles everything I was feeling whilst juggling my personal life and touring'.

The vocals and the beat behind the song really set the tone. A music video for this song has yet to be released but I can imagine it being set within a night club. The one white light shining on both Sam and Normani while everyone is dancing around them with colourful, flickering lights.

Normani's input to this song is really good - I am becoming a huge fan of Normani and her music. Her vocals throughout the song are effortlessly soothing, soft and calming. She really is an artist to look out for in 2019.

I could be completely wrong in what the music video might entail but that is what I imagine when listening to the song. It seems that Sam and Normani have teased a music video for the song and it seems more natural than what I imagine... I don't know, we will see.

Overall, I really, really like this song. I have never been a hardcore fan of Sam Smith but I am going to keep my eye out for them and their next studio projects. With writing these posts, I have opened my eyes to new music and artists instead of the artists I was used too which I am really enjoying.
