Kelly Rowland - Kelly | Song Review

Kelly Rowland is back with her long-awaited, self-titled single, 'Kelly'.

Kelly Rowland is an American singer, songwriter, actress and television personality. She first rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. During their hiatus, Kelly released her debut solo album 'Simply Deep' (2002), which sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and included the number-one single 'Dilemma' with Nelly. She also had many UK top-ten singles such as 'Stole' and 'Can't Nobody'.

Apart from being part of Destiny's Child and being a judge on The X-Factor UK; I know her by the iconic music video for 'Dilemma' with Nelly where Kelly sent a text, to Nelly, on Microsoft Excell and she got frustrated as there was no reply. My main question is... How did they get Microsoft Excell on a mobile phone in 2009? Kelly was living in the future.

Kelly is back with her new single 'Kelly'. She has been really quiet on the music scene for some time now. Her last music release was her album 'Talk A Good Game' in 2013.

Her self-titled single is a fresh banger that draws heavy influence from the Atlanta trap sound. As you can guess by the title, Kelly is singing/rapping about herself - she knows self-love is very important. She seems very confident on this record, which I like.

The thing with 'older' artists or artists that were big back in the day, they usually stay with the same song - especially if they don't release music for a certain amount of time. It seems like they know what kind of music made them popular, but music evolves, so the artist needs to evolve with time/music too. However, it seems Kelly has evolved correctly.

It is nice to see Kelly Rowland is back making music! But does this mean we are going to get a new album? I really hope so. If so, this song is such a good lead single. The beat is insane.
