Ariana Grande - thank u, next | Song Review

After releasing her fourth studio album in August of 2018, Ariana Grande has released the lead single from her fifth studio album which she announced will be coming soon. The album will be called 'thank u, next'.

The name of the new single is what the album is named after, 'thank u, next'. This single seems a lot more mature and following the same route as her previous studio album 'Sweetener'.

Ariana has become more personal with her music - speaking about things that have been brought up in the press. For example, her relationships and breakups and with this new track, she speaks about them and actually puts their names in the song - which I think takes a lot of courage.

With this song and album, she wanted her fans and other people to know she is not slandering her ex's at all. If anything, she is thankful for them because they were the people who made her who she is now. She doesn't want her new music to seem like she is 'bashing' or being rude and confronting her ex's and I think that is very mature of her to do.

Ariana took to Twitter and tweeted:

no drags.... no shade..... jus love, gratitude, acceptance, honesty, forgiveness ... and growth 🖤

The lyric that hit me the most was 'Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm, 'Cause he was an angel'. As I am sure you know, Mac Miller and Ariana Grande were once in a relationship which ended around May 2018. Sadly, in September 2018, Mac Miller took his own life so for Ariana to express her love and grief through this lyric, really hit her fans and me too. RIP Mac Miller!

As I have mentioned previously, this song reminds me of songs from her last album, which was true and honest and I honestly think her best album was 'Sweetener'. I am excited about her new album and I was shocked when I heard she was bringing out ANOTHER album after the short period of time her last album has been out.

I asked one of my friends who is a big Ariana fan to give her thoughts on 'thank u, next' and this is what she had to say:

@chloeeele on Twitter:
i think ‘thank u , next’ is one of ari’s best pieces of work . her honesty , truthfulness and sincerity beams through . it’s such a beautiful song w such an important message behind it ; to be grateful for everyone that’s entered your life , whether they’re no longer apart of it or not , because everything you go through helps you to become stronger . every negative situation has the potential to be positive . period . without the bad , there would be nothing to learn from . life is full of lessons , and from those lessons we’re able to grow , flourish and better ourselves . SO , i think ari really fucking empowered everyone and inspired them to be kind and patient and love to themselves and the people around them
