TANGO GOLF TANGO Unleash Their Sonic Manifesto with ‘Holy Dazed. (radio edit)’
TANGO GOLF TANGO’s single ‘Holy Dazed. (radio edit)’ may not be new, but it remains a powerful expression of the band’s identity and sonic vision. Described by the four-piece as Dark Tropical, the track is both deeply reflective and slightly psychedelic. It marks a turning point where the group, previously shrouded in mystery, revealed its true face and artistic intent.
By conventional standards, TANGO GOLF TANGO should not exist. Francis Thibault is a Numix-nominated podcast director with a love for Boards of Canada and Air. Alexandre Craigh, an ADISQ nominee, has toured across Canada and China with his 60s rock-inspired band Cherry Chérie. Marilyse Senécal, whose voice has enhanced projects by Thierry Larose, Super Plage and Julyan, explores softness and vulnerability through her solo endeavour, San James. Philippe Coutu is driven by electronic music and Afro-Cuban rhythms, adding rhythmic depth and texture. This unusual blend of backgrounds and influences should clash, but somehow it comes together in perfect harmony.
Holy Dazed is an unpretentious anthem to freedom. It gently invites listeners to take a page from Tom Sawyer, to shed outdated beliefs and attachments, and to move towards something new and authentic, even if it comes with a degree of discomfort. Drawing on Carl Jung’s idea that “freedom is only achieved through a process of individuation,” the track encourages inward reflection. The message is simple yet profound: the only way out is in.
The soundscape of Holy Dazed might evoke surreal imagery. Think of Bonnie and Clyde kissing on a plastic beach, surrounded by bonobos, while Montell Jordan observes from a UFO. But that would only scratch the surface. Behind the playful images lies a thoughtful, creative mission. TANGO GOLF TANGO is more than a band; it is a collective shaped by dadaist and humanist values. It is intended to be a free space, a kind of sonic laboratory where ego is left at the door and exploration is key.
With Holy Dazed. (radio edit), TANGO GOLF TANGO deliver a compelling snapshot of their ethos. The song is not just a piece of music but an invitation to think, feel and embrace change without pretence. It remains a standout piece in their catalogue, offering a glimpse into a world where contradictions are welcome and authenticity reigns.
