Talllon Unleash Explosive New Single ‘Trapped’

Galway’s rising alternative rock band Talllon is set to release their latest single, Trapped, on 30th January 2025. The track serves as the second single from their forthcoming E.P, due for release in spring or summer of this year. Packed with 90s rock, punk, and grunge influences, the E.P promises to deliver an energetic and nostalgic sound that calls for the return of mosh pits.

Talllon is a four-piece band from Galway in the west of Ireland, comprising Liam Carroll (vocals/guitar), Cian Geraghty (bass), Ultan Krause (guitar), and Adam Nagajek (drums). The group first came together in the summer of 2023 at Galway’s School of Rock and has since been actively involved with Music Generation Galway City. This initiative has provided them with opportunities to perform live and share their original music across the west of Ireland.

Trapped was one of the first songs written by Liam for the E.P and was recorded and produced by Kenny Ralph at Sun Street Studio, Tuam. The studio has an impressive track record, having worked with acclaimed artists such as The Saw Doctors, Eric Bell (former Thin Lizzy), and Henry McCullough (former Wings). Reflecting on the song’s evolution, Liam shared, “As soon as we heard it come together, I just knew it had to be included as one of the singles. It’s not something I would have expected to write compared to our other songs. I think with Trapped, I surpassed my own expectations, particularly with the chorus and solo progression.”

Lyrically, Trapped delves into the pressures faced by young people in today’s society. The song explores themes of societal expectations, the struggle to fit in, and the challenge of staying true to oneself. Lines such as “You seem to build me up just to tear me down again” highlight the frustration of conforming to external pressures, while “No point in suicide” conveys a refusal to sacrifice one’s identity for the sake of fitting in. The track ultimately serves as a rallying cry for individuality and self-expression.

Talllon’s distinctive sound has been described as “if Nirvana, Thin Lizzy, and Metallica were to have conceived a baby that was born with Green Day’s energy and was hiding out in the west of Ireland, waiting to break out.” When asked about this comparison, bassist Cian responded, “Jeez, I dunno really, for us it is all about the music. We just love having fun with loud guitars and big drums. We have become a good group of friends who get each other and share the same passion for music. The bands mentioned happen to be some of our biggest influences, and if that influence can be heard in what we do, then that’s amazing. It shows how much that era of rock still resonates with young musicians today.”

2025 is shaping up to be a significant year for the band. They were selected as recipients of the Tiny Mutiny grant, commissioned by Galway County Council Arts Office in partnership with Sparkcatchers. This funding will allow them to professionally record and produce their music, further solidifying their place in the Irish rock scene. The band has an exciting year ahead, with upcoming performances at Headfest Festival in Galway, a summer slot at Sound House Rising in Dublin, and an E.P release show with details to be announced. Their first live performance of the upcoming E.P will take place on 1st February at the Tiny Mutiny showcase at The Mall Theatre in Tuam.

Trapped will be available for streaming and download on Spotify, YouTube Music, and other major streaming platforms.
