D Mills Steps Into the Spotlight With “Out of Your Mind”

Los Angeles-based artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist D Mills showcases his musical identity with “Out of Your Mind”, a track shaped by years of performing, writing and working behind the scenes.

Also known as Danny Mills, he has built a career that stretches across production, session work and his own releases. That experience sits at the heart of “Out of Your Mind”, allowing him to approach the song as both an artist and a musician who understands how every part of a track fits together.

Mills began learning music at the age of 16 after deciding that it was what he wanted to pursue for the rest of his life. He met Dr Gayle Serdan while at high school and began taking piano lessons, initially motivated by his ambition to become a producer. Learning the instrument gave him the freedom to turn the melodies and ideas in his head into fully formed compositions.

His musical upbringing covered everything from hip-hop and R&B to jazz and rock. While studying piano, he was introduced to the improvisational side of blues and jazz, which gave him a new way to express emotion through music. After high school, he gained first-hand experience as a live performer before teaching himself bass and guitar.

That wide-ranging background brings extra depth to “Out of Your Mind”. Rather than being tied to just one role or influence, D Mills draws from his abilities as a producer, songwriter and instrumentalist to create music from a complete perspective.

Music also runs deep within his family history. Mills is the great-great-grandson of legendary blues singer Bessie Smith, although he has continued to carve out a musical path of his own. He has performed around the world with major and independent artists, as well as writing and recording alongside respected figures from across the industry.

“Out of Your Mind” adds another chapter to a catalogue that already includes three full-length albums, The Recital, Agape and his latest album, Prism. It is a release that places D Mills firmly at the centre, bringing together the skills and influences he has developed throughout his career.
