Brice Blanco explores identity and ancestry on “Warm Skin / Kin Swarm”
Brice Blanco closes the rollout for his debut album AFRO URF with “Warm Skin / Kin Swarm”, a two-part track that brings the project’s central ideas into focus.
Produced by Groove, whose credits include Smino and J. Cole, alongside Blanco’s longtime collaborator Dav, the track moves through two distinct moods. Its opening half hits with an elastic rhythm and a harder edge, before the production strips back for a more reflective second movement.
That contrast gives “Warm Skin / Kin Swarm” a natural sense of progression. What begins with immediate energy gradually creates space for Blanco to look inwards, exploring African lineage, ancestry and the connections shared across generations.
Rather than treating identity as something fixed, the track presents it as a process of discovery. Rhythm becomes part of that journey, linking the personal with the communal while celebrating the roots that shape a person’s sense of self.
The title itself mirrors the song’s two-sided structure. “Warm Skin” feels intimate and individual, while “Kin Swarm” widens the picture towards family, heritage and collective belonging. Together, the two halves capture the themes of kinship and self-discovery that sit at the heart of AFRO URF.
As the focus track from his debut album, “Warm Skin / Kin Swarm” offers a fitting conclusion to its rollout. It is bold in its opening moments, thoughtful in its closing stretch and firmly grounded in Blanco’s exploration of identity.
