Tombstone Whiskey and the Making of "Come Get Some": A Blue Collar Rock Journey from Swift Current

Swift Current, Saskatchewan, has a vibrant local rock music scene with several bands actively performing and releasing music. Among them is Tombstone Whiskey, a prominent local rock band known for its high-energy sound and original songs rooted in a strong blue-collar identity.

Tombstone Whiskey started as a two-piece band in 2013. The original idea was founded by Darrin Schwartz after he moved to Swift Current. He met co-worker Mike Zacharias and the two began practising together, developing early material and shaping what would become their signature “blue-collar rock” style. Their approach focused on straightforward songwriting influenced by real life, everyday experiences, and a shared love of classic rock.

As the project developed, bassist Brad Podolski joined the band, expanding the sound and allowing the group to refine its arrangements and musical direction. This marked an important stage in their growth, transforming the project from a simple duo into a full band with a clearer identity and greater creative range. In 2022, veteran lead guitarist Kevin Steinley joined, bringing additional experience and technical skill that helped elevate the band’s sound and stage presence.

Since then, Tombstone Whiskey have continued to build momentum within Swift Current and beyond. The band has earned recognition for its energetic live performances and original material, gaining attention both locally and internationally. Their achievements include reaching the quarterfinals of Rolling Stone Magazine’s “America’s Next Top Hitmaker” in 2024 and 2025. They have also been featured in three Dead Prairie Productions films, received local and international airplay on independent radio stations around the world, and attracted growing media attention in and around Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Their newest album, Come Get Some, released on 1 June 2026, represents a major milestone for the band. Recording began in September 2025, and the project is described as a labour of love. The album draws heavily from classic rock, 1990s rock, and country and southern rock influences, blending these styles into a sound that moves between hard-hitting rock tracks and more emotional, reflective ballads.

The songs explore themes based on real-life experiences, including loss, addiction, struggle, and resilience. Rather than following a single concept, the album reflects both new material and songs that have been part of the band’s live set for many years. This creates a sense of continuity and shows how the band’s sound has developed over time while remaining true to its roots.

Come Get Some captures Tombstone Whiskey at a defining point in their journey, showing how they have grown from a small two-piece project into a fully formed rock band with a strong identity and an expanding audience.
