Maria Ellis Finds Calm in Love on New Single “Lucky”
Rising pop artist Maria Ellis returns with her latest single, “Lucky”, a sweeping pop and R&B ballad that captures the rare feeling of finding someone who sees every part of you and chooses to stay. Released alongside an accompanying music video, the self-written and co-produced track shows Ellis at her most vulnerable, combining strong vocals, lush string arrangements, and polished pop production to create a song that feels intimate, cinematic, and heartfelt.
Where her previous single “Relapse” explored the pull of a relationship she knew she should leave behind, “Lucky” sits on the opposite side of that emotional journey. It is a song about security rather than uncertainty, acceptance rather than tension, and the quiet realisation that love can feel safe instead of complicated.
Across the track, Ellis reflects on what it means to be fully known by another person while still struggling to see herself in the same positive way. The song balances gratitude and vulnerability, focusing on the experience of being supported by someone during moments of self-doubt. With soaring melodies and layered vocals, “Lucky” feels both personal and easy to relate to.
Musically, the single builds on Ellis’s blend of contemporary pop and R&B. The production brings together strings, atmospheric textures, and detailed vocal layers, keeping the emotional message at the centre of the song. The result is a record that feels modern while also having a timeless quality, suited to quiet reflection and repeated listening.
“Lucky” also continues a wider creative project Ellis has been developing, where each release explores a different stage of the same relationship. While “Relapse” focused on the cycle of returning to someone despite knowing it is not right, “Lucky” moves back to an earlier point in the story, capturing the comfort and optimism that first made the relationship meaningful.
This approach reflects Ellis’s wider songwriting style, which is grounded in honesty and lived experience. Her music often explores emotional contradictions rather than trying to simplify them. By writing songs that represent different moments in the same story, she allows listeners to see relationships in a fuller and more realistic way.
Her approach to storytelling can be traced back to her early life.
Raised on Long Island in a traditional Greek Orthodox household, Ellis grew up surrounded by music while often feeling like she was balancing different sides of herself. At home, she was creative and expressive, writing songs from a young age and even bringing original work into piano lessons meant for classical training.
Outside the home, she was more reserved. Music became a place of comfort and stability, especially as she managed anxiety connected to a childhood heart condition. Early performances at church events and local fundraisers gave her confidence, and by twelve she had earned recognition at Long Island’s Got Talent, realising her voice could reach people beyond her immediate circle.
A personal loss during her teenage years had a lasting impact on her songwriting. After the death of a close cousin, music became a way to process emotions that were difficult to express in conversation. That focus on emotional detail continues to shape her writing today.
After receiving a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, Ellis developed her skills in songwriting, production, and performance. That period helped shape the artist she would later become through her 2025 debut EP Ultrabaddie, a project centred on confidence, independence, and emotional honesty.
Since then, Ellis has built a strong presence as an independent artist. She has gained more than 7.3 million views on TikTok, grown a social following of over 100,000, and received coverage from Rolling Stone and Digital Journal. Her live performances include appearances at New York Fashion Week, Steinway Hall, and support slots for artists such as Evangelia and Emilia Ali.
With “Lucky”, Maria Ellis continues to expand her sound and storytelling. The track highlights vulnerability as a strength and shows how love can feel grounding when it is built on understanding and acceptance.
