Hanna Andréa challenges digital distraction with new single “GET OFF YOUR PHONE”

Norwegian-American pop artist Hanna Andréa returns with her new single “GET OFF YOUR PHONE,” released on 24 April. The track is the lead single from her forthcoming EP Braveheart and offers a first glimpse of a project that continues her focus on emotionally driven, cinematic pop.

The song takes aim at a screen-focused culture, looking at how constant scrolling can pull attention away from real life moments. It is delivered with a playful but direct tone, pairing sharp observation with a strong pop sensibility. The result is a track that feels both timely and personal.

Co-written by Andréa alongside Michael Biancaniello, James Conner, Kelsey Gauthier and Dominique Vellutato, the single leans into an Americana-tinged pop-rock sound. Restless guitar lines and a sense of movement run through the production, drawing influence from late 90s and early 2000s rock. It carries echoes of artists like Avril Lavigne while also sitting comfortably alongside modern pop artists such as Olivia Rodrigo.

Lyrically, “GET OFF YOUR PHONE” moves between reflection and frustration. It opens with the lines, “Today I saw a shooting star / Not far from where you are / And all the places we used to go,” setting up a feeling of distance and missed connection. As the track develops, that tone becomes more direct, eventually landing on the repeated refrain, “’Cause you’re on your phone.”

Andréa has spoken about the idea behind the song, reflecting on how social media shaped her experience growing up. She described moments of being physically present with friends while feeling disconnected as they scrolled on their phones. That contrast between togetherness and distraction sits at the heart of the track.

“GET OFF YOUR PHONE” introduces Braveheart, an EP that shows a wider range of Andréa’s sound. The project also includes “Pinnacles,” a synth-pop and trap-influenced track produced in Stockholm, “Float,” which leans into a more ethereal style, and the title track “Braveheart,” a piano-led piece released on 27 March. Across the EP, she explores themes of self-acceptance, imperfection and personal growth.

Since her debut single “Starlight” in 2024, Andréa has developed a style that blends atmospheric synths, orchestral textures and layered vocals. She is often compared to artists such as AURORA, Laufey, Tommee Profitt and Jacob Collier, though her work is rooted in a cinematic pop identity that is distinctly her own.

Her debut album Stranded In The Middle, written and produced when she was 16, introduced this approach early on. The project included collaborations with Northern Norwegian artists and was later reimagined by a classical ensemble in Norway for a live performance at her album launch.

Outside of pop music, Andréa has also worked in theatre. She wrote the songs for Muse! The Shakespeare Mayhem Musical, a pop musical co-created with Lisa Sanderson. After its premiere at Lincoln Centre, the production was selected for the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it will run at Underbelly’s Cowbarn venue from 7 to 31 August. The show was first developed at Interlochen Centre for the Arts and has since grown into a full-scale production with Broadway involvement.

Looking ahead, Braveheart will be followed by a concept album that continues Andréa’s focus on storytelling and cohesive world-building. Her work combines introspective lyricism with a nostalgic edge, appealing to listeners drawn to both emotional depth and cinematic soundscapes. Visual storytelling also plays a central role in her releases, supported by music videos and film-like visualisers.

Raised between Northern Norway and the United States, Andréa’s bilingual and bicultural background has shaped her artistic identity. Growing up north of the Arctic Circle, she experienced both the natural landscape of Norway and the fast-moving culture of the American West. As a citizen of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma, she also draws on a matrilineal heritage that informs her grounded and personal approach to storytelling. Her training at institutions including Princeton University and Interlochen has further supported her development as a multidisciplinary artist.

With “GET OFF YOUR PHONE,” Hanna Andréa delivers a sharp, relatable pop statement that sets the tone for a new chapter in her career.
