Tex – “Food”: A Raw Taste of Hunger and Hustle
Brooklyn artist and writer Tex, a member of D.M.I., returns with his new single “Food”, a track that reflects his ongoing commitment to raw, unfiltered Hip Hop. Influenced by pioneers and inspired by legends, Tex has long described music as his passion, with Hip Hop becoming his main focus after first hearing The Message. From that point, his path moved through freestyling, battling and writing, shaping an artist who now centres his work on lived experience and realism.
Tex comes from Brooklyn and often describes himself as “project bred” and “Brooklyn fed”, with that environment continuing to influence both his outlook and his music. He is also a founding figure of D.M.I., a collective built around the aim of resurrecting Hip Hop’s original spirit while building a lasting legacy through lyricism and truth.
On “Food”, Tex focuses on hunger in every sense of the word. The track explores the need to survive, the pressure to succeed and the constant drive to reach something greater. Rather than treating hunger only as a physical idea, he uses it as a wider metaphor for ambition and determination.
The production is stripped back and direct, giving space for the lyrics to carry the weight of the record. There is little distraction in the sound, which helps the focus remain on Tex’s delivery and message. His approach is straightforward and grounded, matching the tone of the subject matter.
“Food” stands as a statement of intent rather than just a song. It captures a mindset shaped by struggle, awareness and refusal to settle. For Tex, hunger is not only the starting point but also the force that continues to drive his work forward.
