Julian Sometimes Offers a Cinematic Reimagining of a Bacharach Classic
With the release of his new single Always Something There to Remind Me, Julian Sometimes closes the chapter on the three-song rollout ahead of his forthcoming EP, produced by Chris Chu of POP ETC. Now that the track is officially out, listeners can finally hear the cinematic and soulful reinterpretation he has spent the past year shaping.
Julian’s version of the Bacharach favourite stands apart through its tender falsetto delivery and contemporary synth pop production. Warm, gently pulsing synths give the song a spacious and intimate feel, allowing his voice to carry the emotional weight of the melody. The familiar yearning at the heart of the original remains, yet he reshapes it with a modern sensibility. Each chorus grows bigger, opening into shimmering synth flourishes and vocoder harmonies that lift the song into something bright, polished and quietly stirring. Fans of Troye Sivan, MUNA and Ritt Momney will find much to love.
The single follows a period of steady momentum for Julian. His debut release Buzz found an early audience on Spotify, earned support from KCSN 88.5 and was Shazamed hundreds of times after being added to playlists across major retailers throughout the summer. His recent track Outside Man continued that rise, receiving warm praise from Berlin on Air, Beach House Magazine and Popfad within its first week.
With Always Something There to Remind Me, Julian Sometimes shows a confident and thoughtful approach to reimagining a classic. It is a fitting final preview of his upcoming EP and a clear sign of an artist coming into his own.
