Los Angeles-born artist HippyGOD unveils his powerful new single ‘What I Live For’, a gritty, emotionally-charged hip hop anthem that delivers not only on raw energy but also on deeply personal storytelling. “Music always been the blood but nobody in our family decided to choose a career in music,” HippyGOD reflects. From a young age, it was clear that music ran deep in his veins. Influenced by the likes of 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Ja Rule and Wiz Khalifa, he found himself gravitating towards lyrics, flow and beats long before he had the tools to create his own. As a schoolboy, he would often recite his favourite rappers’ verses during class, calling the habit his own form of freestyling – a clear sign that the artist within him was already awakening.

In 2009, the creative spark turned into fire when he and his cousin, Flash Uno, completed their first collaborative track, ‘icecreamDGAF’, featuring a few of their schoolmates. It was at this moment that HippyGOD realised music wasn’t just a hobby – it was his calling.

Despite lacking consistent access to a studio for many years, HippyGOD remained undeterred. He continued writing, recording ideas and crafting lyrics straight from his smartphone. The hustle was real, and the drive never waned. Then, in 2024, a life-altering moment came with the birth of his daughter. Inspired by her presence and the desire to break cycles of struggle and hardship, he found new motivation to fully pursue his career in music. That same year, he enrolled at the Los Angeles Film School to study music production and engineering – a decisive step that marked the beginning of a new chapter.

November 2024 saw the release of his debut EP ‘In HippyGOD We Trust (IHGWT)’, a bold and unmistakable introduction to his unique artistic voice. With themes ranging from self-discovery to resilience, the project cemented HippyGOD as a rising force in modern hip hop – unfiltered, unapologetic and deeply intentional.

‘What I Live For’ builds on that foundation with an even sharper sense of urgency. The track reflects on the barriers HippyGOD faced during his formative years in early-2000s Los Angeles, a period marked by adversity, survival and the forging of identity. But it also offers a powerful counterpoint: his unwavering love for his young daughter. In this anthem, he channels his commitment to providing her with a better future, using music as the vehicle to overcome generational pain and offer healing through love.
