Heisenberg Principle’s ‘Chalk and Cheese’: A Musical Ode to Perfect Contrasts

Heisenberg Principle, the musical project of Bendigo-based singer-songwriter Greg Stehle, has unveiled a standout new single titled Chalk and Cheese. Taking its name from the well-known phrase about unlikely pairings, the song is a warm and honest reflection on how differences within a relationship can become its greatest strength.

Inspired by Greg’s own 18-year marriage, Chalk and Cheese explores the idea that opposites do more than attract. They challenge, complement and ultimately support each other. The track celebrates the quirks, contradictions and mismatches that so often define real, lasting love. Rather than smoothing over differences, it embraces them with humour and heart.

Heisenberg Principle takes its name from the famous quantum theory that deals with uncertainty, and the music reflects this theme with a genre-blending sound. Drawing on Greg’s eclectic background, the project mixes indie rock with varied textures and unexpected elements. Greg began his musical journey with classical violin and jazz saxophone, performing in three symphony orchestras before fronting two original bands and learning blues harmonica. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, he picked up a guitar for the first time and taught himself to play through online videos, sparking a prolific songwriting phase that has resulted in more than 60 original tracks.

His upcoming debut album, Icarus, is set for release in 2025. It features 11 songs shaped by a life full of creative exploration and personal achievement. Greg’s story includes being ranked No. 2 in Australia for Sabre fencing, creating over 30 short films, raising a family and earning two master’s degrees. Each of these experiences finds its way into his music, giving it depth, personality and emotional weight.

Influenced by artists such as Wet Leg, Paul Kelly, Maggie Rogers and AC/DC, Heisenberg Principle delivers songs with catchy hooks and lyrical sharpness. Chalk and Cheese stands out as a charming and relatable tribute to the everyday work of love and the quiet beauty found in difference.
