Mega Queen Unleash 'Angel of Death' – A Sinister New Chapter in South Australian Rock

Port Pirie’s heavy metal juggernaut, Mega Queen, have returned with a vengeance, unveiling their thunderous new single “Angel of Death” on 11 April. The track marks a darker, more ferocious turn for the South Australian outfit, who have spent years crafting a distinctive sound that melds blues, prog, industrial and classic heavy metal.

Formed around the formidable talents of Mick Combs (guitars, bass, synths) and Ivy Stone (drums, piano, vocals), Mega Queen have built a reputation for bending genres without breaking the cohesion of their albums. Their musical alchemy results in a richly varied back catalogue - each release distinct, yet unmistakably Mega Queen.

Recorded at Ekletrik Rekordz and helmed by Don Douglass - the producer and engineer behind Mick Combs’ The Wizard - “Angel of Death” is a bold statement of intent. Drawing inspiration from early '90s industrial rock and the shadowy sonic imprint of Black Sabbath, the single is both a homage to the roots of metal and a step into more sinister territory.

Combs delivers punishing, Sabbath-esque riffs laced with industrial textures, while Stone’s vocals dive deep into the growling grit of acts like Disturbed and Rob Zombie, signalling a fierce evolution in Mega Queen’s sound. This heavier, edgier approach sets the tone for their upcoming third album, Human Condition, due for release on Friday 13 June.

While Angel of Death may come across as a darker beast than their previous work, it remains quintessentially Mega Queen - genre-blending, risk-taking, and unapologetically heavy. With Douglass now at the production helm and a decade’s worth of unreleased material finally seeing the light of day, Human Condition promises to be the band’s most sonically defining work yet.

Mega Queen are not just revisiting metal’s past - they’re forging its future, one explosive track at a time.
