Matt Churchill Revisits ‘Chasing Echoes’ with a Striking Alternative Rendition
Matt Churchill, a singer-songwriter hailing from Watford and now based in London, has unveiled a fresh rendition of his 2020 track, "Chasing Echoes." This alternative version delves deeper into the nuances of long-term relationships, capturing the essence of enduring love and the quest to rekindle the initial sparks that first ignited the connection.
Influenced by artists such as Beth Orton, Richard Ashcroft, Frightened Rabbit, and Noel Gallagher, Churchill has been performing as a solo artist since 2003, managing his career independently. His music has garnered airplay on platforms like BBC 6 Music, XRP Radio, and Vibe 107.6.
In "Chasing Echoes," Churchill reflects on the journey of a long-term partnership, celebrating the growth and evolution of both individuals while yearning to recapture the youthful exuberance that characterised their early days together. The song serves as a reminder to "stay young, be beautiful, live with experience," emphasising the importance of remaining true to oneself amidst the passage of time.
This release follows a series of projects that highlight Churchill's versatility and collaborative spirit. In 2018, he released the five-track EP "Submarines," produced, mixed, and engineered by Hyper Lion of Pariis Opera House.
Between 2013 and 2014, Churchill unveiled a trio of three-track EPs—"Cause/Affect," "Over Seas," and "Ghosts" - each produced, mixed, and mastered by Hyper Lion. These collections are noted for their dreamy vocals and intricate counter melodies.
Beyond his solo endeavours, Churchill is one half of the transatlantic indie duo Firebird Union, alongside his brother Ross. This project blends British and American synth and guitar influences, drawing inspiration from artists like Noel Gallagher, Fleet Foxes, and HAIM.
The alternative version of "Chasing Echoes" not only revisits a beloved track but also offers listeners a renewed perspective on the themes of love, growth, and the timeless pursuit of youthful passion within enduring relationships.
