INNERMOST’s ‘Heart On Hold’: A Cinematic Journey Through Introspection and Closure
Peruvian musician Christian Aguirre, under the moniker INNERMOST, returns with his most ambitious release to date - Heart On Hold, an EP crafted in Örebro, Sweden. Renowned for his instrumental rock compositions, Aguirre continues to explore the realms of atmospheric and cinematic sound, offering what feels like the lost soundtrack to a film that does not exist.
With Heart On Hold, INNERMOST takes a deeply introspective turn, presenting three intimate and melancholic pieces that stand apart from his previous work. The EP is a meditation on closure, self-reflection, and hope, blending intricate textures and evocative melodies. To fully realise his vision, Aguirre enlisted the talents of two exceptional musicians: Annarella Sörlin on flute and Melissa Wallbom on Peruvian cajón.
Sörlin, known for her work with Annarella&Django, lends her mesmerising flute playing to the EP, elevating the compositions to new heights. Her contributions weave an ethereal thread throughout, becoming one of the defining elements of the sonic landscape. Meanwhile, Wallbom introduces a touch of Aguirre’s heritage by incorporating the Peruvian cajón, most notably in the intro of one track - a moment the composer himself considers one of the EP’s finest.
Adding further depth to the experience, INNERMOST integrates poetry into the project. In recognition of the instrumental nature of his work, Aguirre penned a three-part poem as a lyrical counterpart to the music. These verses are brought to life by the haunting voice of Hanna Stenbeck, whose readings echo throughout the compositions, enhancing the narrative and emotional weight of the pieces.
As always, Aguirre remains at the core of INNERMOST, handling electric and acoustic guitars, bass, synthesisers, cover art, and all aspects of production. The result is a profoundly personal yet universally resonant work - one that captures the fragility of the heart and the longing for release.
Through Heart On Hold, INNERMOST invites listeners into a sonic world of sorrow and solace, where wistful melodies and poetic musings intertwine. It is a journey through the echoes of the past and the promise of what lies ahead, all set against a backdrop of cinematic beauty.
