Caitlin Lavagna’s ‘October’: A Hauntingly Honest Anthem of Heartbreak
Caitlin Lavagna, a multitalented actor, musician, vocalist, and songwriter, has unveiled her latest single, October. An Actor Musician graduate from the prestigious Rose Bruford College, Lavagna’s creative versatility knows no bounds, blending her skills in acting, drumming, songwriting, and vocal artistry to craft deeply personal and emotive songs. Born in the Rhondda with strong Gibraltarian roots, Caitlin brings a unique blend of cultures and experiences to her music, which is characterised by powerful lyrics, rhythmic intensity, and captivating vocal harmonies. Her new single, October, is no exception.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Fleetwood Mac, Florence and the Machine, Sting, and Pink, Caitlin’s music blends pop hooks with a rhythmic core and a rich, soulful voice. She also takes pride in being influenced by friends in the music industry, such as Angel Hotel, Taff Rapids, MOA, and Cedar. This array of influences has shaped Caitlin's distinctive sound—marked by strong female vocals and a passion for percussion, which resonates through her latest work.
Following a remarkable year in her career, Caitlin has continued to build momentum, earning accolades such as third place at the Radio Wigwam Awards for Best Female Artist, and first place for Best Solo Artist at the Newport City Radio Awards. Her previous single, Gold, earned her a spot on BBC Radio Wales' Welsh A-List, a prestigious achievement she repeated with her powerful song Pretty Alright, which tackled themes of self-doubt and body image. In October, Caitlin turns her lens inward once again, delivering an intensely personal narrative of heartbreak.
Describing October as “one of the most personal songs I have ever released,” Caitlin shares how this track is a raw reflection of the emotional turmoil she experienced after being ghosted by someone she believed cared for her. “I love this time of year,” Caitlin reflects. “October holds my birthday, spooky season, and the promise of autumn. But last year, my life was turned upside down. I was left confused, desperate, and heartbroken.”
The song was born out of a year of emotional recovery, during which Caitlin found solace in writing. October is a cathartic attempt to reclaim a month that once brought her joy, but which was tainted by personal loss. "It follows a year of being ignored by someone who I believed loved me. Releasing it now is cathartic, allowing me to take back my favourite month, a time for me." Caitlin's vulnerability is palpable in this track, as she invites listeners on a journey through the pain of a brutal and unexplained end to a beautiful connection. Her powerful voice, coupled with an emotive melody, delivers a deeply resonant experience for anyone who has grappled with heartbreak.
As a live performer, Caitlin has also made her mark, headlining the Rhondda Arts Festival (RAFT) and Gen Z Fest, as well as playing an acoustic set at Wokingham Festival 2024. After taking on key roles in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, she returned to Gibraltar as part of The Weekender 2024 line-up. Caitlin's festival season will culminate with a performance at Radio Wigwam’s DAB Cardiff Launch Party, further solidifying her place as a rising star in both the Welsh and Gibraltarian music scenes.
Caitlin Lavagna’s journey has been one of growth, resilience, and artistic triumph. With October, she has delivered not only a deeply personal song but also an anthem that will resonate with anyone who has experienced the rawness of heartbreak. It's a poignant reminder of the healing power of music and a testament to Caitlin’s ability to transform pain into beauty.
As she looks ahead to more gigs and new music, Caitlin’s star continues to rise. With each release, she reveals more of herself—her strength, her vulnerability, and her undeniable talent as both a songwriter and performer. October is a shining example of what makes Caitlin Lavagna a truly unique voice in the contemporary music scene.
