EL CAPITXN Turns A Lost Voice Into A Rock Anthem
EL CAPITXN has spent years shaping the sound of other artists. Known for producing tracks including Agust D’s “Daechwita”, IU’s “Eight” and tripleS’s “Girls Never Die”, he has built a reputation as one of K-pop’s behind-the-scenes hitmakers. With “Don’t Say Love”, released on 23 October, he steps forward as a singer again.
The fiery, rock-fuelled single features Los Angeles alternative rock band BEAUTY SCHOOL DROPOUT. Their presence adds weight to its intense alternative and hard rock sound, as EL CAPITXN turns a deeply personal experience into a song about the frustration of having something to say but being unable to say it.
“Don’t Say Love” draws on EL CAPITXN’s time as an idol, when an unknown illness took away his singing voice. For someone whose work is built around music, losing the ability to sing was a profound setback. The track reflects the anger and helplessness of wanting to express love through music while being physically unable to use his voice.
That history gives the song its emotional force. Its rock sound carries the tension of a story that has stayed with him, while the lyrics centre on the struggle to communicate. Rather than keeping the focus on the setback itself, EL CAPITXN uses the song to return to the role of singer and share an experience that shaped his relationship with music.
The release also marks a new chapter in his career. “Don’t Say Love” is the pre-release single for his debut full-length album, WHO KILLED EL?, due on 6 November 2026. After years of creating music for other performers, the album gives him space to put his own voice and story at the centre.
With BEAUTY SCHOOL DROPOUT alongside him, EL CAPITXN brings that story to life through a bold change in sound. “Don’t Say Love” is a personal return to singing, shaped by the difficult experience that once took his voice away.
