Roger K Turns Everyday Pressure Into a Dancefloor Escape on “Cost Of Living”

Rising prices, long working weeks and the occasional impulsive weekend provide the inspiration for Roger K’s latest single, “Cost Of Living”.

Rather than dwelling on the pressures affecting people’s bank balances, Roger turns that shared frustration into a bright pop-reggaeton track made for switching off and letting loose. Its infectious dembow rhythm, warm melodies and smooth vocal hooks give the song an upbeat, summery feel, even as the lyrics reflect a familiar modern reality.

The verses follow the cycle of working nine to five, checking the bank account with a sigh and making a few questionable decisions at the weekend simply to escape it all. That contrast is where the track works best. The subject is grounded in everyday life, but the production keeps things light, energetic and ready for the dancefloor.

“Cost Of Living” also reflects Roger’s preference for clear songwriting and polished production. Inspired by the warm, punchy sound of J Balvin’s “Azul”, the track avoids unnecessary complications, allowing its rhythm, story and catchy hook to lead the way.

Roger K is an independent pop artist whose music carries subtle influences from R&B, reggae, Afrobeats and lo-fi. His previous releases include “Smile at Fear”, “Plastic Heart”, “Lately” and “Mona Lisa”, each showing a different side of his storytelling and wide-ranging musical background.

That versatility has been shaped by more than 15 years of live performance experience across Australia’s eastern seaboard. With over 150 gigs behind him, Roger has performed English-language music spanning the 1960s to the present day, alongside Sri Lankan music as part of a band regularly attracting crowds of more than 300 people.

His solo work pairs this experience with a growing visual identity built around cinematic storytelling and carefully styled imagery. Supported by international radio play, including regular airplay in Brazil, Roger continues to develop a sound that brings together creative freedom, memorable songwriting and commercial pop appeal.

With “Cost Of Living”, he has taken one of life’s least enjoyable subjects and found a reason to dance through it.
