Matilde G Finds Her Freedom in “Running Away”
Matilde G’s “Running Away” is one of the most untamed tracks on Beautiful Wreckage, her first full rock album. The song follows a love triangle shaped by temptation, but its real turning point comes when the narrator recognises the need to break free before losing herself.
That sense of release carries into the video, filmed in a wreck yard surrounded by metal and broken glass. Matilde G takes a baseball bat to the cars, turning the setting into a fitting backdrop for a song about reaching a limit and finding a way out. It is a raw image, but one that matches the track’s central feeling: sometimes something has to break before you can breathe again.
The release reflects a new chapter for the Italian-born singer, songwriter and performer. Now 20 and based in Singapore, she first made her mark as a pop artist. With more than 30 million streams across 180 countries, she has built an international audience while moving towards a sound that gives her more room to speak plainly.
Released in October 2025, Beautiful Wreckage brings that shift into focus. Written and co-produced between Los Angeles, Stockholm and Italy, the album draws on raw emotions and unfiltered experiences. “Rock became the only way I could tell my story,” Matilde G has said. “These songs scream, cry, and love deeply, just like me.”
On “Running Away”, that directness comes through in both the subject matter and its visual treatment. Matilde G has described this era as a move away from trying to make everything look polished, saying, “No more cute, just real. I’m not a content creator. I’m a f***ing artist.” The song makes that statement feel less like a slogan and more like a creative choice.
Her rock sound carries traces of artists including Halsey, Paramore, Yungblud and Måneskin, while keeping a character of its own. Away from the studio, Matilde G has performed across Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, the Maldives and the UAE. Her appearances include the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, the sold-out Amerigo Vespucci World Tour and a support slot for Bad Gyal.
She has also been featured by outlets including Billboard Italy, Billboard Vietnam, MTV, CNA and TGCOM24. Yet “Running Away” brings the focus back to the music: a story of attraction, conflict and the moment someone decides they have had enough. On Beautiful Wreckage, Matilde G gives that feeling the force of a rock song and the space to be heard.
