Travis Clarke Finds Renewal in ‘Breathe Again’

Bahamian artist Travis Clarke brings his wealth of experience to ‘Breathe Again’, a song centred on finding the strength to move forward.

Although it is not a new release, the track remains a meaningful part of Clarke’s catalogue. Its title captures that moment when the pressure begins to lift and life finally feels manageable again. Rather than pretending that difficult experiences can simply be forgotten, ‘Breathe Again’ points towards recovery, freedom and the possibility of a fresh start.

That sense of perseverance reflects Clarke’s own journey through music. Born and raised in Nassau, The Bahamas, he began performing at just six years old through church, competitions and special events. At 17, he successfully auditioned for Baha Men, although his school commitments eventually led him to continue as a solo artist.

In 2009, Clarke became the first winner of Bahamian Idol and recorded a cover of Perry Como’s ‘Prisoner of Love’. He later signed with MarAnce Records and worked with a team that included Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson.

His career would eventually take him to China, where he spent almost a decade and performed across more than 50 cities. During that time, he made Shanghai his second home, headlined a tour for Nike and became the first Black male artist to appear in three Chinese television adverts, writing, producing and performing the music for each campaign.

Clarke has also opened for artists and performers including Akon, Redfoo, Kat Graham, B.o.B and Dita Von Teese. In 2022, he wrote, produced and performed ‘Tsunami’ for the off-Broadway production Restoration, supporting its message of environmental awareness.

‘Breathe Again’ offers a more personal entry point into that extensive story. It is a reminder that an artist’s older work can still connect with listeners discovering it for the first time, particularly when its message remains easy to understand. For Clarke, the song forms part of a career shaped by persistence, change and the determination to keep creating.
