Richpockets Carries the Weight of the Journey on ‘Pockets Full Of Rain’
Brooklyn artist, writer, producer and videographer Richpockets turns experience into storytelling on his new album, Pockets Full Of Rain. Released through DMI Records, the 12-track project explores the struggles, relationships, losses and ambitions that have shaped his life.
Raised in South Central California and now residing in Brooklyn, Richpockets has connections to both the East and West Coast hip-hop scenes. As a member of the underground West Coast movement 2000 Crowz, he developed his voice as a poet and street lyricist. His music brings passion back to the beat, drawing on real moments rather than presenting a polished version of life.
That approach sits at the heart of Pockets Full Of Rain. More than a straightforward collection of songs, the album plays like a soundtrack to Richpockets’ journey. Each track opens another chapter, moving through memories of the streets, personal setbacks, complicated relationships and the determination required to keep pursuing a vision when life becomes difficult.
The album’s title captures the feeling of carrying everything that life has placed upon him. Rain becomes a symbol of emotional weight, hardship and the storms that can follow someone through different stages of their life. However, the record is not defined by defeat. Richpockets continues to move forward, turning that pressure into music with purpose.
There is plenty of confidence and street energy across the project, but Richpockets also allows space for reflection. He looks at where he came from, where he has been and what it has taken to reach this point. Those more vulnerable moments give the album additional depth, revealing the person behind the hardened exterior.
Collaborations with Tex, Boro Hall, Bigshot and D1btrict introduce different voices and styles throughout the record. Each guest contributes to the album’s wider sound without pulling attention away from Richpockets, who remains firmly at the centre of its story.
Production from DJ Pain1, Richpockets, Boro Hall and Davante brings together hard-hitting hip-hop, reflective passages and tracks created with the streets in mind. The varied production supports the changing moods of the album while maintaining a consistent sense of identity.
Pockets Full Of Rain presents Richpockets as an artist shaped by two coasts, years of experience and an unwavering commitment to his craft. By turning life’s heaviest moments into honest music, he has created an album about carrying the storm and continuing to move through it.
