Eric Hirshberg Asks a Different Question with “What’s Not Wrong”

In a world where headlines often focus on conflict, uncertainty and everything that is going wrong, Eric Hirshberg is asking listeners to consider a different perspective.

His new single “What’s Not Wrong” takes a simple question and turns it into a powerful reminder to notice the good that is often overlooked. Taken from his upcoming album More Is Not The Answer, the song encourages people to shift their attention away from constant negativity and towards the moments that bring meaning to everyday life.

Driven by a memorable bass line and an uplifting chorus, “What’s Not Wrong” has the feel of an anthem, but its message comes from a much quieter place. It is about recognising the things that are already there: friendships, family, experiences, small comforts and the moments that make life feel richer.

“This is a stubbornly optimistic song in a stubbornly pessimistic time,” Hirshberg says. “We are bombarded with negativity on an industrial scale, but we are also living through the safest, most prosperous time to be a human being in the history of the world.”

That contrast is what gives the song its impact. The title itself reflects the way people often approach life today, with even positive thoughts filtered through a focus on problems. Instead of asking what needs fixing, Hirshberg invites listeners to consider what is already working.

The answer, he suggests, is longer than people might expect.

Throughout “What’s Not Wrong,” Hirshberg paints a picture through ordinary but meaningful experiences. A swim in the ocean, standing beneath a waterfall, discovering a memorable coffee while travelling, sharing music with friends, picking up a favourite book or simply waking up feeling healthy and loved all become reminders that there is value in paying attention.

The song’s message is not about ignoring difficulties or pretending everything is perfect. Instead, it is about recognising that gratitude can exist alongside uncertainty and that focusing on what matters can change the way people experience the world.

The accompanying music video brings that idea to life, capturing Hirshberg and his band in a lively performance that reflects the song’s optimism and energy. Rather than relying on a complicated concept, the video focuses on the connection between the musicians and the feeling behind the track.

“What's Not Wrong” serves as a key moment on More Is Not The Answer, an album built around the question of where people choose to place their attention. Across the record, Hirshberg examines the distractions competing for focus while returning to themes of connection, family, technology, purpose and gratitude.

The album’s central message is that having more does not always lead to feeling fulfilled. In a culture built around constant updates, endless content and the pressure to keep searching for the next thing, Hirshberg suggests that meaning can often be found by paying closer attention to what is already present.

The songs released ahead of the album each approach that theme from a different angle. “For Real,” featuring Aloe Blacc, focuses on empathy and the importance of genuine conversations. The track introduced Hirshberg’s music to a national television audience through a performance on Live with Kelly and Mark, where Kelly Ripa praised it as “an anthem.”

“We’re All In This Alone” looks at the relationship between technology, algorithms and modern isolation, exploring how people can feel connected while becoming increasingly separated. “More Is Not The Answer” reflects on priorities and perspective following the Los Angeles wildfires, while “Less Important Things” considers the emotional shift that comes with children leaving home and the process of letting go.

Together, the songs form a portrait of modern life and the choices people make about what deserves their attention. For Hirshberg, focus is not just a practical decision but an emotional one.

Before becoming known as a musician, Hirshberg built a successful career in entertainment and advertising. He spent almost a decade as CEO of Activision, helping oversee some of the biggest franchises in gaming, including Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Skylanders and Destiny. Earlier, he was CEO and Chief Creative Officer of Deutsch LA, where the agency received multiple industry honours during his leadership.

That experience continues to shape his approach to songwriting. His music draws on a wider understanding of storytelling, creativity and culture, bringing a different perspective to the themes he explores.

With “What’s Not Wrong,” Eric Hirshberg is not suggesting that challenges disappear. Instead, he is offering another way of looking at them. By changing the question, he encourages listeners to recognise the people, experiences and moments that are already making life meaningful.

More Is Not The Answer will be released on September 21st. “What’s Not Wrong” is available now on all streaming platforms, with the official music video available on YouTube.
