Samar – “On The Radio”: A Rising Voice in Canadian Soulful Pop
Samar (pronounced “summer”) is a magnetic soulful-pop artist of Sudanese-Canadian heritage who lives and performs across communities in Canada. She is steadily building her place in the Canadian music scene with a sound shaped by warmth, emotional honesty, and a strong live presence.
From a young age, Samar was regularly performing at open mics, school talent shows, and musicals. These early experiences marked the beginning of her journey as a working musician. Over time, she developed a rich, warm vocal tone, a wide range, and a confident stage presence that has helped her stand out in every space she performs in.
In 2018, Samar was recognised as one of the prominent female-identifying artists in a local newspaper following her performance at the Uproar Arts Festival Fundraiser in Ottawa, Ontario. The event highlighted women in the arts and helped raise her profile within her local creative community.
After that, she continued to expand her performance experience across a variety of venues. One of her most notable performances took place at the National Art Gallery of Canada, where she performed for more than 200 patrons.
In 2021, Samar began creating and releasing her own original music. She has worked with award-winning producers across North America, including Grammy-nominated producer Roy Hamilton III, to develop her sound. Her debut single Memory introduced her as a recording artist with a focus on self-empowerment and personal reflection. The song received positive attention, and she later performed it on CTV Morning Live, where her live performance was well-received by viewers and the local community.
Her latest release, On The Radio, continues this artistic journey. While information about the track itself remains limited, it sits within Samar’s broader musical identity, which blends soulful-pop production with storytelling that reflects growth, emotion, and lived experience. The song adds another layer to her evolving catalogue as an independent artist.
Samar continues to develop her presence in the Canadian music landscape, building momentum through live performance, recorded releases, and a growing connection with her audience.
