JMT-Prod Releases Single "BreizhOplydance": A Fusion of Celtic Roots and Modern Hip-Hop
Jean Marc Tola, better known as JMT, is a French producer, composer, and music maker. Born in Marseille in 1969, he grew up listening to hip-hop pioneers like IAM, Massilia Sound System, NTM, Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-One, and Public Enemy. These influences shaped his style, mixing classic hip-hop with modern production.
JMT has always been fascinated by technology. He discovered computers in 1981 and started making music on an Amiga in 1987. Years of experimenting with sampling, time-stretching, and sound design helped him create a unique and personal sound.
In the 1990s, he co-founded the group La Cinquième Colonne in Vienne, France, releasing Colonne V in 1996 and Des mots… in 1997. After many live shows and studio sessions, he worked with other artists as a manager and booker, learning even more about the music world.
JMT has explored many genres, from hip-hop and jazz to funk, reggae, and electronic music. In 2016, he came back with new compositions that reflect his years of experience. Today, he writes and produces all his music, bringing his own style to every project.
His latest single, BreizhOplydance, is a world hip-hop track built from samples recorded in the streets of Lorient during the Lorient Interceltic Festival. Voices from terraces, urban sounds, and Celtic energy come together to create an organic, modern beat.
Fans of Fakear, Wax Tailor, and Chinese Man will find much to enjoy. BreizhOplydance blends Breton roots with contemporary hip-hop, adding touches of folktronica. It is JMT’s first track in this style and shows how he turns cultural influences into something fresh and modern.
BreizhOplydance is not just a single. It’s a bridge between past and present, tradition and innovation, and a glimpse of JMT’s musical journey.
