Kerr Mercer Returns with “Terrified”
Kerr Mercer has released his second single, Terrified, and it marks an important step in his growth as a songwriter.
After his debut, Mercer was lucky enough to meet songwriter Max Wolfgang, who co-wrote an album for Olivia Dean. During that meeting, Wolfgang asked him to write a song. What came from that simple invitation was Terrified.
The track was written at his mum’s house in Glasgow, which gives the story behind it a grounded, personal feel. There was no elaborate studio setting, just an honest writing session in a familiar place. That environment seems to have allowed the song to take shape naturally.
At its core, Terrified is about the overwhelming fear of not being enough for someone. It captures that spiralling anxiety that can take hold when you care deeply about a person but constantly doubt yourself. It is about feeling so unbearably worried that the fear becomes all-consuming.
For a second release, it is a brave subject to tackle. Rather than hiding behind surface-level lyrics, Mercer leans into vulnerability and says what many people struggle to admit. The result is a song that feels sincere and emotionally direct.
With Terrified, Kerr Mercer continues to carve out his sound, showing a willingness to be open and honest in his writing.
