Dark Hearts Release Retro-Indie Single "I Fell in Love with a Rockstar"

Edinburgh-based indie rock and pop band Dark Hearts have released their latest single, I Fell in Love with a Rockstar, a tribute to the female rock icons who have inspired a generation. Known for writing authentic songs with dark, emotive lyrics and a mix of rock riffs and pop melodies, Dark Hearts wear their hearts on their sleeves. Fans of Blondie, Garbage, and the cool sounds of the 1980s will find plenty to enjoy in their music.

At the centre of the band is singer and songwriter Jacqueline Anne Campbell (Jac). With strong Scottish and Irish heritage, Jac grew up surrounded by music and inspired by the classics her father introduced her to, including the evocative songs of Nina Simone. Her own influences focus on strong female role models such as Shirley Manson, Siouxsie Sioux, Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, and PJ Harvey, alongside 1970s classic rock and the poetry of Bob Dylan. A self-confessed “night creature”, Jac brings passion and emotion to every song, a creativity further shaped by her home, a centuries-old church in the middle of a graveyard.

Robin Strain plays lead guitar and contributes to songwriting. From dimly lit pub venues to the stage of Barrowlands, Robin has explored rock, blues, and pop, always pushing creative boundaries. His guitar and harmonica work gives Dark Hearts their inventive edge.

Peter Lockwood provides keyboards and piano, adding texture to the band’s sound. A music teacher and theory enthusiast, he is a devoted supporter of Jac and Robin’s songwriting.

On bass, Dean Burne was inspired to pick up music after seeing Bon Jovi live in 1994 and now anchors the band’s rhythm with his distinctive tone. Neil has been drumming since his early teens and brings groove, grit, and dry humour to the group.

Following their 2025 single Gun, I Fell in Love with a Rockstar delivers a slice of retro pop and rock with heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies. With Jac’s evocative songwriting, Robin’s inventive guitar, Peter’s brooding keys, Dean’s dynamic bass, and Neil’s driving drums, Dark Hearts prove that modern indie rock can still have soul, edge, and retro glamour.
