Zachary Friederich Unveils New EP "SONGBOOK BURNING"
Zachary Friederich, a genre-hopping songwriter from New York, has released his latest EP, SONGBOOK BURNING. Known for his prolific songwriting and production, Friederich takes listeners on a swift and eclectic journey through the American musical landscape. Along for the ride are his regular collaborators and fellow songwriters David Lowell, Kate DeToye and Shae Moseley, who contribute to the EP’s rich sound.
The record opens with “My Love is an Exploding Star”, a rowdy rock-and-roll track full of dirty guitars and grinding organs.
“Italian Battalion Chief” moves into talking blues and folk, telling the story of a Chicago firefighter who is injured and the nurse who helps him recover. The track features a gentle vibraphone melody that would not feel out of place in a piece of children’s music, giving the song a surprisingly whimsical touch.
“Loddy Da” is a catchy retro jangle pop tune about a girl who is just too cool. Pumping electric piano and chain gang-style backing vocals give the track a timeless quality, making it feel both modern and nostalgic.
In “Oh How You Glow”, Friederich slows things down with a radiant acoustic jazz song that highlights beautiful classical guitar work.
The EP closes with “Suicide in A Major”, which begins as a classical guitar instrumental before building into a powerful piece of post-rock, showcasing Friederich’s skill at moving between genres.
SONGBOOK BURNING is a bold and varied collection that demonstrates Zachary Friederich’s ability to blend rock, folk, jazz, pop and post-rock into a single, compelling experience. It is an EP that rewards attentive listening and confirms Friederich as a versatile and adventurous songwriter.
