Lexytron’s “Stone Cold”: A Chilly Spark of Emotion and Wit

John & Yoko. Jack and Meg. Now Lexy & Mike. Following in the tradition of creative partnerships that leave a mark on music, Lexytron is an offbeat English husband-and-wife duo based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), New Zealand. Together, they craft songs that are playful, heartfelt, and entirely their own.

After their debut album Something Blue, lead singer Lexy takes a turn towards a more electronic sound on Something New. The album combines alternative pop rock with sharp wit, big choruses, and the emotional honesty that has become her trademark. It was self-produced in Auckland and mixed and mastered by London producer Marco Meloni. The record earned Lexytron international praise, with features in Earmilk and Obscure Sound in the US, The Listening Post on Fresh On The Net in the UK, and airplay on stations including Amazing Radio in both the UK and US.

One track that stands out is Stone Cold. Lexy recalls writing it in a cold Swedish apartment after walking home shivering from a night out when all forms of transport had broken down and it was -20°C. She says, “It’s funny how a visceral reaction can spark something so stark and emotionally arresting. I brought the song to my husband Mike and we worked on it together, shaping it to sound like a mix of The Cure’s moodiness and the cinematic intensity of a Christopher Nolan soundtrack.”

Stone Cold is track 10 on Something New, which is out now. The animated video adds another layer of charm and intrigue, featuring footage of a vintage Felix the Cat trapped in an Arctic paradise, reflecting the song’s icy, arresting atmosphere.

Lexytron continues to push the boundaries of genre and expectation, creating songs that are clever, bold, and unforgettable. With Stone Cold, they offer a sharp, emotional experience that lingers long after the music stops.
