Henry Lees Ignites the Groove with “Smoke”
Henry Lees continues to make his mark in the pop-soul scene with his latest single, Smoke, a funked-up, groove-filled track that tells a cautionary tale about the dangers of modern dating. The song follows the story of someone encountering a particularly dangerous shark in the dating pool before turning the tables and putting that predator on blast.
The track is built around a kick-em-to-the-curb bass line, a shake-your-rump rhythm, and a slick, sassy electric guitar riff reminiscent of Nile Rodgers. The combination creates a muscle-bound pop-soul banger with a “smoke, smoke, smoke” refrain that sticks in the mind long after the track ends.
Smoke is a collaboration with rising artist-producer Sean Thomas, who has worked with Debbie Gibson, Joey McIntyre, and New Edition. Together, Lees and Thomas have created a track that balances playful bravado with irresistible groove.
The single is already gaining recognition, earning a place as a Semi-Finalist in the Unsigned Only 2025 competition. This is one of ten songwriting honours Lees has received since 2021, highlighting his growing reputation as a talented and innovative songwriter.
With Smoke, Henry Lees delivers a track that is as memorable as it is danceable, blending storytelling, funk, and pop-soul energy into a track that is impossible to ignore.
