Window Kid Returns with Infectious UK Rap Single "Folklore"
Nottingham lyricist and viral MC Window Kid makes his return this November with Folklore, an instantly catchy UK rap single created with multi-platinum producer Shapes. The track flips Basement Jaxx’s XL Recordings release Red Alert, blending classic British dance nostalgia with the witty, self-aware bars and playful storytelling that have become Window Kid’s signature.
Fresh from a sold-out UK tour and viral success, Window Kid has earned a nomination for DJ Mag’s Best MC/Vocalist of 2025. Folklore has already inspired over 150 TikTok videos and more than one million views using the original sound, reflecting the excitement around the release.
Shapes’ bass-heavy production provides the perfect backdrop for Window Kid’s conversational and energetic flow. The single captures the energy of the UK underground while nodding to the golden era of 2000s club culture. Window Kid’s combination of humour, Nottingham grit and catchy hooks continues to make him a distinctive voice in UK rap, bridging underground authenticity and mainstream appeal.
Following his collaboration with Toddla T on Rambling Bars, Folklore shows Window Kid evolving from a comedy-tinged viral MC into a skilled songwriter and performer. Shapes adds to his growing catalogue with credits for Aitch, Emily Makis, Rudimental, Wretch 32, Issey Cross and more. Together, they deliver a track that celebrates UK culture in its purest form, witty, energetic and unmistakably British.
Window Kid shared the story behind the track: “I had a gig DJing for Example at a festival on the Isle of Man, and Basement Jaxx were also on the bill. I ended up chatting to them at the airport the next day and asked them for the parts to Red Alert so I could sample it. Felix said yes. Over three years passed and I didn’t do anything with them because I didn’t find the right vibe, until I went to the studio with Window and played him the sample. Then we made the tune in about an hour.”
With Crucast continuing to push boundaries beyond the dancefloor, Folklore positions Window Kid as one of the UK’s most entertaining and original voices heading into 2026.
