Alan Ward: 'Living Room' – A Smooth Hip Hop & R&B Single
Alan Ward, the Milwaukee-born hip-hop and rap artist, has carved out a reputation for being both lyrically sharp and sonically distinct. His journey began at the end of 2019, fresh out of school in Winona, Minnesota, where he introduced himself to the scene with his debut EP Joon. The project was met with a warm reception, encouraging Ward to quickly follow up with two singles before the year’s close. These were later folded into his first mixtape, alongside five additional tracks that defined his early sound, described by listeners as “lyrical”, “bass-heavy” and effortlessly “cool”.
2020 saw him continue his momentum, releasing another single that found its home on his sophomore mixtape Dolo. The year also marked his first foray into visuals, with a music video for the lyrical B-cut Studio Time. His consistent output earned him placements in several publications, as well as spins on both national and international radio stations. For an artist barely a year into his career, the promise was undeniable.
By 2021, Ward had refined his approach, releasing a well-received EP led by the standout single Picasso. His sound, a balance of infectious beat selection and lyrical substance, had now solidified his reputation as one of the most exciting rising emcees in the underground scene. With more press coverage, additional radio placements and podcast interviews under his belt, Ward was steadily building a brand that resonated beyond his local scene.
The following year brought even greater milestones. In 2022, Ward dropped several singles before embarking on his first tour in March. July delivered another defining moment with the release of Vintagious, a 4-track EP executively produced by Tedy Andreas, further showcasing his versatility and artistic growth.
2023 was a year more focused on visuals, though Ward still kept listeners fed with Bucket, a boom-bap single reminiscent of his BOR: Basket of Raps project. His sonic output in 2024 was intentionally leaner with two singles and a pair of features, yet even with a lighter schedule, his presence remained firmly intact.
Now, Alan Ward returns with Living Room, a smooth Hip Hop and R&B single that demonstrates both his maturity as an artist and his evolving sound. The track carries the confidence of someone who has found his footing, offering a laid-back yet infectious vibe that resonates with listeners who appreciate substance paired with groove. Living Room is not just another release, it is a statement of where Ward currently stands, comfortable, authentic, and ready to expand his reach even further.
From the grit of his early mixtapes to the polished sheen of his latest single, Alan Ward has shown time and again that he is not merely passing through hip hop, he is steadily carving his place within it. Living Room is proof that his journey is only just beginning.
