Thomathy's Favourites: July 2025
I’ll be honest, July hasn’t been a stellar month for music discovery. Not because there’s been a lack of good music out there, but because it’s been one of those months: hectic, fast-paced, and crammed with responsibilities that haven’t left much room for the deep-diving, brain-tingling music quests I normally love. You know the kind, where a new song hits just right and loops on repeat for a week straight? Yes… not many of those this month.
That said, I’ve still managed to pull together 12 tracks that have kept me afloat. They’ve been playing in the background during commutes, giving me a bit of life when I needed it, and in some cases, even made me pause and take notice.
Let’s get into it.
🎶 Listen to the full playlist:
1. JUMP – BLACKPINK
BLACKPINK is doing what BLACKPINK does best: attitude, energy, and a beat that slaps. “JUMP” is loud, confident, and sounds like a stadium anthem. It doesn’t reinvent their formula, but when that chorus hits, it's an instant boost.
2. BOY CRAZY. (feat. JADE) – Kesha, JADE
Kesha teaming up with JADE gives us this cheeky, vibrant banger that feels like a night out wrapped in glitter and eyeliner. A little chaotic, very catchy, and bursting with character.
3. Drums – dearALICE
Moody, layered, and cinematic. “Drums” is one of those tracks that creeps up on you. It’s not flashy. Instead, it builds a slow-burning atmosphere, perfect for evening walks or quiet moments.
4. Hit The Reset – BargainBoys, CHXPTER, Ethose
Sharp, clever production with a hypnotic groove. “Hit The Reset” feels like the sonic equivalent of clearing your head and starting fresh, something I’ve definitely needed more than once this month.
5. Underground – f5ve
A low-key banger with an edge. “Underground” brings gritty, late-night energy with heavy bass and dark vibes, yet it’s still very much danceable. Ideal for those 3am existential moments.
6. Outside – Charrllee
This one’s bright and airy, with a slightly nostalgic tone that makes it feel timeless. “Outside” is chill without being sleepy, making it perfect for lazy summer afternoons.
7. Dream – Ethose
This is more of a vibe than a traditional structure, and that’s what makes it stick. “Dream” floats along in a hazy, ethereal kind of way. It’s dreamy and quietly introspective.
8. Hearts On Hold – Dōein
An emotional standout. “Hearts On Hold” delivers soft vocals and poignant lyrics that feel like they’re reaching out to you. It’s beautifully restrained and genuinely moving.
9. Been A Minute – Leigh-Anne
Leigh-Anne’s solo material continues to impress. This track is smooth, sultry, and effortlessly cool. It’s pop R&B with just enough edge, and her vocals are top-tier as expected.
10. Honey – Dynesti
“Honey” is bold, bouncy, and unapologetically fierce. Dynesti oozes charisma, and this track is like being handed a shot of confidence. It absolutely slaps.
11. Sunshine – Mercury Trip
True to its name, “Sunshine” brings the feel-good factor. A bit psychedelic, a bit indie-pop, and totally ready to soundtrack a golden hour. It’s warm, hopeful, and easy to fall into.
12. Follow Excitement! – Rizzle Kicks, Rachel Chinouriri
The Rizzle Kicks and Rachel Chinouriri collaboration I didn’t know I needed. “Follow Excitement!” blends playful nostalgia with fresh vocals and a beat that’ll have you grinning before you even realise it. A welcome reminder to have fun, which July has seriously lacked, if I’m honest.
So there you have it, a slightly scattered but honest collection of tracks from a month that’s been more stress than serendipity. These songs didn’t all blow my mind, but they helped keep it together, and sometimes that’s more than enough.
Let’s see what August brings.
