A Lifelong Journey in Music: Bob Houghton’s 'Never Give Up'

Bob Houghton has spent a lifetime balancing work, family, and an enduring passion for music. Now, with the release of his 10-track album Never Give Up, the Meridian, Idaho-based musician showcases the culmination of decades of creativity, persistence and dedication.

Houghton’s musical journey began in his early twenties when he picked up the bass and joined both cover and original bands. Inspired by the energy of countless hard rock concerts, he soon felt compelled to write his own songs. Teaching himself guitar, he set up a home studio, a decision that marked the start of what would become a 30-year commitment to songwriting and recording.

Over the years, Houghton refined his craft through collaboration with fellow musicians and by immersing himself in the technical side of music production. He completed The Recording Connection Bachelors Programme in audio recording, adding professional polish to his growing body of work. His songs can be found across popular streaming platforms including Bandcamp, ReverbNation, SoundCloud and N1M. He is also an active member of both the International Songwriters Association and the Idaho Songwriters Association.

Following his recent retirement from a successful career as a service advisor and repair shop manager, Houghton has been able to devote himself fully to his music. From his home studio, he records primarily solo, playing guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, while also producing music videos to accompany his songs.

Never Give Up is a carefully curated collection of ten original tracks, recorded across several years and brought together to form a cohesive album. It serves as a reflection of his persistence in pursuing creativity, even when life demanded his focus elsewhere.

For Houghton, music has always been more than just a pastime. It is a passion, a form of expression, and now, in retirement, a central focus of his life. Never Give Up is not only the title of his album but also an ethos that has carried him through decades of writing, recording and perfecting his art.
