Hogleone’s Single ‘Down by the Lakes’: A Rhythmic Tribute to Minneapolis
Hogleone, the musical moniker of Jorgen Hoglund, is a fascinating artist with a rich and varied background. Born in Sweden but now an American musician, Hogleone has journeyed through a unique musical path that spans continents and genres. Having played with groups such as Tres Coronas, Imperial Sounds, Jacarandas, and Gå Runt Show alongside Bernt Dahlbeck and Mia Adolfson, his career is marked by diverse collaborations. At the young age of nineteen, he even played lead guitar for a year with Little Gerhard and his Rocking G-men in Mexico before continuing to tour Swedish folkparks as part of Little Gerhard & Sunny Girls.
Hogleone’s creativity further flourished when he co-founded the group Tequila with Mexican friends Renato Lopez, Rafael Sida, Pepe Ballote, and British musician Sam Marsden. After four years, he emigrated to the USA, producing albums before taking a hiatus from the music business - what he fondly calls “the end of ancient history”.
However, a couple of years ago, Hogleone re-emerged into the music world with renewed vigour. Setting up a home recording studio, he embarked on an ambitious project, creating an entire album completely by himself. Writing all the music and lyrics, performing all the instruments and vocals, and handling the recordings, arrangements, production, mixing, and mastering alone, he has released a series of eleven singles throughout 2024, all building towards his upcoming album Many Waters, due in 2025.
Among these releases is the single Down by the Lakes, a rhythmic and catchy homage to the lakes of Minneapolis, Minnesota - a place that clearly holds a special place in Hogleone’s heart. The song’s rich and layered arrangement transports listeners right to the scene. Beginning with guitars and synths, it gradually grows to incorporate a vibrant rhythm section, choir, violin ensemble, and brass section. The track’s multiple interweaving musical themes culminate in a grand, almost symphonic experience that showcases Hogleone’s remarkable talent and vision.
Down by the Lakes follows earlier singles such as I Believe in Love (September 6), Leaving It Up to You (October 3), and A Melody (November 8), along with a Swedish-language single Hoppas att du förstår released in July 2024. These releases offer a fascinating glimpse into the eclectic and deeply personal soundscape that Hogleone is crafting with Many Waters.
In sum, Hogleone’s Down by the Lakes is a testament to his musical journey and a vibrant celebration of place, sound, and artistic independence. As the singles roll out each month, anticipation builds for the full album’s arrival next year, promising an immersive listening experience shaped entirely by the vision of this multifaceted musician.
