Sly S!R Unleashes 'D.S': A Cinematic Descent into Fantasy and Rap

At 29 years old, Belgian rapper Sly S!R is firmly establishing his place in the evolving world of hip-hop. Hailing from Liège, Sly S!R has long been a true music lover, finding his creative voice within the realm of rap at the age of 20. After spending nine months immersed in Toronto’s vibrant music scene and undertaking two years of deep musical introspection, he made the bold decision to transition into English, a choice that now seamlessly enhances his distinctive, genre-fusing sound.

Drawing inspiration from visionary artists such as J.I.D, Tyler, The Creator and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Sly S!R skilfully blends R&B with contemporary rap, building a universe that is as introspective as it is raw. With his highly anticipated project Open World DLC: Step Into The Abyss scheduled for release in May 2025, he invites listeners to embark on a journey into uncharted sonic territories.

Today’s spotlight falls on "D.S", the second single from the upcoming Step Into The Abyss EP — a reissue of his June 2024 project, now expanded with four new tracks, bringing the total to thirteen. This enriched edition offers fans an even deeper dive into the multifaceted world of Sly S!R, one heavily inspired by the immersive realms of video games.

"D.S", short for Dragon Slayer, cleverly connects fantasy themes with gaming culture, paying homage to Nintendo’s iconic DS console. The track sets a darker, more mysterious tone within the reissue, rooted in Sly S!R’s enduring passion for grand, imaginary worlds.

Imagining himself traversing a snow-laden forest straight out of Dark Souls or Skyrim, Sly S!R dons the mantle of a seasoned dragon slayer. Across two minutes and fifty-one seconds, he expertly slices through both monstrous foes and razor-sharp instrumentals, showcasing the lyrical precision and dynamic flow that have become his signature.

The production on "D.S" is nothing short of meticulous, crafted by beatmaker Distro, mixed by Marvin Franchella of Local Bastard Music, and mastered by Pieter de Wagter at Equus Mastering. The result is a track that feels cinematic, intense, and deeply atmospheric — the perfect addition to any high-energy hip-hop or cinematic rap playlist.

Released on 23rd April, "D.S" marks a thrilling descent into the darker depths of Sly S!R’s imaginative universe, offering a tantalising glimpse of what is to come in Step Into The Abyss. As the world of gaming and fantasy collides with hard-hitting rap, Sly S!R cements himself as an artist unafraid to carve his own path through the ever-shifting landscape of modern music.
