Esli Mozhno Unveil New Single "Этот мир совсем не наш" ("This Land Is Not For Us At All")
Emerging from the vibrant underground scene of Tashkent, Uzbekistani band Esli Mozhno continue to carve out their distinctive niche with the release of their latest single, "Этот мир совсем не наш" ("This Land Is Not For Us At All"). Since their formation in late 2021, Esli Mozhno - whose name translates from Russian as "If Possible" or "If That's Okay" - has cultivated a devoted following among post-punk enthusiasts across multiple countries, bolstered by frequent radio play and a reputation for atmospheric, emotionally charged performances.
Blending the brooding intensity of classic post-punk with the shimmering textures of synthwave, Esli Mozhno have drawn comparisons to genre heavyweights, yet continues to develop a voice uniquely their own. Their most successful single to date, "Столько тупых вокруг" ("So Many Fools Around"), captured listeners with its razor-sharp lyrical wit and melancholic energy.
The band's current live line-up features an impressive roster of talent: vocalist and producer Alexey Polyakov (also known for his work in 19:34 and Метод Тыка), bassist Władek Sheen (Cruel Tie), guitarist Yevgeniy Ilyin, and keyboardist Nikolay Makarov, both of whom also perform in Метод Тыка. Together, they have shared stages with influential acts such as Ploho, Peremotka, and Труд, and collaborated with fellow artist Past Day. Their ambitious spirit was further showcased in December 2023 with the release of the music video "Пыль (Синтепон)", shot across Berlin and Tashkent by acclaimed director Michael Borodin.
"Этот мир совсем не наш" marks a bold step towards the band’s forthcoming debut album, a space-inspired journey blending sonic nostalgia with future-facing ambition. The song grapples with themes of alienation and the quest for belonging, whether on Earth or among distant stars. Initially drawing inspiration from the icy synths and electronic pop stylings of The Human League, the track ultimately evolved into an emotive fusion of synth-pop and Soviet rock, underscoring Esli Mozhno’s ability to pay homage to the past while forging new pathways.
With this release, Esli Mozhno reaffirm their status as one of the most intriguing voices in the modern post-punk and synthwave revival, and anticipation for their debut album continues to build.
