Mellified Man’s ‘Elitist Proletariat’: A Dystopian Soundscape of Industrial Grooves

Stockholm-based electronic musician Mellified Man emerges once again with an audacious and thought-provoking release, the EP Elitist Proletariat. Cloaked in an air of mystery, Mellified Man crafts dark, dystopian soundscapes steeped in industrial grit and cyberpunk aesthetics. The name itself evokes an eerie horror-inspired vision, yet beneath the unsettling ambience lies a rhythmically compelling and undeniably groovy sonic experience - an author of sound rather than words.

Elitist Proletariat is a significant addition to Mellified Man’s discography, though not the first of its kind. This latest offering presents both familiar and brand-new compositions, including "Berlin Wall," "Matriarch," "George Orwell," "Jezebel," and "Mkultra." Each track delves into themes that resonate deeply with modern society, drawing stark parallels between historical events and the present day.

The EP’s introductory track, Matriarch, sets the tone with a pulsating groove, reminiscent of Tokyo Rat’s Edge of Tokyo but reimagined through the lens of Cabaret Voltaire and Boy Harsher. A voice sample extracted from a documentary on rat societies and the theory of overpopulation provides a chilling commentary on societal structures and the looming spectre of human overpopulation.

George Orwell follows, paying homage to the acclaimed author of dystopian classics such as 1984 and Animal Farm. With a captivating blend of New Beat and Electronic Body Music (EBM), the track pulsates with infectious energy, echoing the works of A Split-Second, Skinny Puppy, and Front 242. The relentless rhythm encapsulates a sense of inescapable dystopian reality - an invitation to “dance till the world ends,” as Mellified Man puts it. The track is set to evolve further, with vocals and lyrics planned for the future album release.

Perhaps the most haunting piece on the EP, Mkultra, veers into a raw and visceral soundscape inspired by the early works of Severed Heads (Blubberknife, Clean), Throbbing Gristle, and Suicide’s Frankie Teardrop. It narrates the harrowing tale of a survivor of the infamous MKUltra experiments, immersing the listener in a nightmarish psychological ordeal. The track’s disturbing screams, desperate pleas, and profanity-laced anguish serve as a stark reminder of the fragility of the human psyche. A voice sample from a real survivor reinforces the EP’s overarching message - one must always question authority, institutions, and the narratives imposed upon society.

Elitist Proletariat is merely the beginning of Mellified Man’s unfolding narrative, a sonic journey that blurs the boundaries between past and present, horror and groove, control and rebellion. As the project continues to evolve, this EP stands as a testament to the artist’s ability to channel darkness into an electrifying and thought-provoking auditory experience.
