Dynesti’s ‘No Man’: A Gospel-Infused Anthem of Empowerment and Resistance

Toronto’s Dynesti, a dynamic rapper, singer, and dancer, has released a powerful new single, "No Man," just in time for Women's Month. This marks the third single from her highly anticipated upcoming album The Dyna: Breakfast, set to drop in autumn 2025. The track delivers a bold, gospel-infused hip-hop anthem that embodies Dynesti’s fierce pushback against patriarchal attitudes and the harmful narrative that women should be controlled by men.

"No Man" stands as a declaration of strength and independence. In the chorus, Dynesti has reworked the traditional Black spiritual "Ride On, King Jesus," a song that was originally a subversive response to the oppressive forces during slavery. Her reimagined lyrics – "standin’ on bidness" followed by “no man can a-hinder me” – serve as an empowering rallying cry for women to stand firm in their beliefs and resist intimidation and injustice.

The song was inspired by Dynesti’s reaction to the wave of resilient women protesting against abortion bans and restrictive health policies. The lack of empathy from public leaders, coupled with the arrogant and dismissive rhetoric from "alpha male" influencers taunting women online, drove Dynesti to pen this indignant track.

In line with the powerful message of the song, the cover art for "No Man" draws on the imagery of the 19th-century emancipation movement and the Underground Railroad. It depicts women of different races coming together under the cover of night, symbolising solidarity, strength, and the fight for freedom.

Dynesti’s music is rooted in her experiences, from her time spent in the shelter system to her involvement in community arts programs. Through her raw honesty and vibrant energy, she has captivated audiences worldwide, sharing stages with the likes of Sean Paul, Dax, and Talib Kweli. Her music blends neo-soul, conscious hip-hop, and dancehall, tackling topics such as mental health, liberation, and community.

As the second instalment in her five-part recording project, The Dyna: Breakfast explores themes of womanhood, relationships, and identity, all from the perspective of a Black girl from a broken home. With “No Man,” Dynesti invites listeners to join her in celebrating resilience, empowerment, and the collective strength of women. The single is available across all streaming platforms.
