Ahnchaeree and Władek Sheen Reimagine "Birds of a Feather" with an Indie Rock Twist

The ever-evolving landscape of indie music welcomes an exciting new collaboration as Władek Sheen and ahnchaeree present their unique rendition of Birds of a Feather, originally by Billie Eilish. This reimagined version brings together elements of indie rock, shoegaze, and dream pop, offering a fresh and sophisticated take on one of last year’s most celebrated hits.

Anastasiya An, known artistically as ahnchaeree, is an emerging figure in the Korean indie scene. Based in Daejeon, she seamlessly blends Russian, English, and Korean influences in her music. Her journey began with acoustic cover performances on social media, later branching out into rock bands before making the bold step towards a solo career.

Władek Sheen, on the other hand, is an established independent artist of Korean-Uzbekistani descent, residing in Tashkent. As a founding member of the alternative rock band Cruel Tie, he has played hundreds of shows since 2011, including an opening slot for The Jesus and Mary Chain in 2018. While primarily known for guitar-driven genres such as noise rock, britpop, and shoegaze, his solo work has also ventured into alt-pop, baroque pop, and synthwave. His 2024 single Goodbye is currently receiving airplay on the Californian shoegaze station DKFM, as well as on French, Brazilian, and Australian radio stations.

The collaboration between Sheen and ahnchaeree came naturally, as both artists originally hail from Tashkent. After discovering her covers of Billie Eilish songs online, Sheen invited ahnchaeree to contribute her vocals to the project. The result is a strikingly atmospheric rendition of Birds of a Feather, with Sheen’s production introducing subtle jazz-inflected harmonies and delicate modulations that shift the song’s emotional landscape. His backing vocals further enrich the arrangement, providing an ethereal contrast to ahnchaeree’s expressive delivery.

The single is accompanied by a video filmed in Seoul, visually complementing the song’s dreamy yet introspective essence. With this release, both artists demonstrate their ability to reinterpret contemporary pop through an alternative lens, making Birds of a Feather a must-hear for indie music enthusiasts.
