Miranda Faul’s Debut EP "Rise & Run": A Stunning Blend of Heart and Harmony

Irish singer-songwriter Miranda Faul has unveiled her much-anticipated debut EP, Rise & Run, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning career. Released on 17th January 2025, the EP captures Miranda’s distinctive fusion of folk, pop, R&B, and soul, establishing her as a formidable presence in the contemporary music scene.

Known for her evocative voice and introspective lyricism, Miranda Faul has built a reputation for addressing themes of heartbreak, trauma, and the contradictions of modern life with a rare combination of darkness and hope. Drawing on her roots in Sligo and Kildare, Miranda began writing songs and playing the guitar at a young age, inspired by artists such as Adele and Jorja Smith. Since her debut on Dublin’s open mic stages in 2022, she has performed at prestigious venues across Ireland and the UK, including Whelan’s, The Sound House, The Button Factory, and London’s Dingwalls.

A Richly Layered Musical Journey

Rise & Run opens with the title track, an electrifying pop anthem laced with R&B and country influences. “Rise and Run” delves into the complexities of generational trauma, delivering a message of self-liberation and resilience. Miranda describes it as a “Trauma Bop,” blending poignant lyrics with a pulsating rhythm designed to inspire movement and reflection. The song’s chorus, originally a poem Miranda wrote at the age of eight, adds a deeply personal layer to this cathartic anthem.

The EP moves seamlessly into “Delicate,” a shimmering electro-pop ballad that explores the pain and suffocation of a toxic relationship. Its haunting melodies and raw vulnerability make it a standout track. Next comes “Not Much of a Man,” an upbeat R&B-infused tune capturing both the light-hearted fun and bittersweet frustration of yearning for the wrong person. The EP closes with “You Would Have Let Me Down,” a powerful folk-pop masterpiece that evolves from a stripped-back introduction to a rich, atmospheric finale. Featuring a blend of piano, guitars, synths, strings, and percussion, this track poignantly examines the decision to end a relationship before further harm can be done.

An Introspective Yet Uplifting Soundscape

Throughout Rise & Run, Miranda’s emotive vocals and poetic lyrics shine. Her ability to layer harmonious vocals over intricate instrumental arrangements is matched by her knack for crafting infectious melodies. Produced by Cian Sweeney, the EP is a testament to Miranda’s artistry and vision. Sweeney’s production amplifies the depth of her songwriting, resulting in a cohesive yet dynamic musical journey.

Speaking about the title track, Miranda reflects, “Rise and Run is a song about giving yourself permission to detach from a broken parent and find your own happiness without needing their approval or closure. It’s a fight for survival, full of grit and backbone, and I wanted the production to be infused with energy. Cian worked his magic on it, and I think it can be rightly described as a Trauma Bop.”

A Celebrated Debut

Since its release, Rise & Run has garnered significant acclaim. Tracks from the EP, including the unreleased single “You Would Have Let Me Down,” have already featured on BBC Across The Line, BBC Introducing, and RTE 2FM’s The Greene Room with Jenny Greene. The EP’s lead single, “Delicate,” was previously lauded as Hot Press Magazine’s Track of the Day, earning Miranda further praise from outlets such as ChordBlossom and Golden Plec.
