VK Lynne’s ‘Carry On’: A Bold New Chapter in an Eclectic Musical Journey

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter VK Lynne has crafted a uniquely genre-blending sound over the years, rooted in a rich tapestry of musical experience. Her latest single, “Carry On,” emerges from her ambitious 2024 project, The Spider Queen. This venture sees Lynne embarking on a remarkable journey: writing, recording, and releasing one song each month, complete with a music video. The Spider Queen is more than an album; it's a year-long creative exploration, showcasing Lynne’s distinctive fusion of blues and metal in what she calls a “blues metal” sound.

The past decade has seen Lynne channel her talents through an array of musical styles and projects, each one contributing something unique to her craft. In the 2000s, she released three solo blues rock albums—The Key of V, Black Halo, and Whiskey or Water—which established her as a powerful voice in the genre. Then, from 2010 onwards, Lynne dove headfirst into the metal scene. She joined forces with symphonic metal project Vita Nova and progressive metal outfit stOrk, before eventually co-founding The Spider Accomplice, a symphonic rock duo that quickly earned its own following. Her most recent experiences in symphonic and progressive metal deeply inform her current work, merging the emotional depth of blues with the intensity and complexity of metal.

In 2023, Lynne toured North America and Eastern Europe with The Spider Accomplice, supporting acts like the symphonic metal powerhouse Visions of Atlantis and rock duo Hoekstra Gibbs. But with The Spider Queen, Lynne is once again returning to her solo roots, albeit with a refreshed perspective. This project allows her the freedom to blend her prior genres, unrestricted by any single musical style, creating a sonic landscape that feels both familiar and fresh.

The single “Carry On” embodies this spirit of perseverance and reinvention. Working with producer Cody Johnstone, who was recommended by none other than her friend and fellow musician Lindsay Schoolcraft, Lynne found the perfect collaborator for this journey. Johnstone embraced her ambitious vision, helping her navigate the fusion of styles without compromising the individuality of each song. Lynne has described The Spider Queen as a year-long exercise in creativity and resilience, a project pushing her to deliver on a strict monthly schedule, balancing artistic integrity with the pressure of deadlines.

The journey, however, is not without its challenges. As Lynne puts it, each month brings the “pressure to get it all done, without compromising quality.” Yet, she thrives under this intensity, finding the process both exhausting and invigorating. Reflecting on the project, she shared a personal mantra: her mother’s advice that “it’s amazing what you can do when you have to.” For Lynne, this year is proof of that, as she continues to produce songs that resonate with the weight of lived experience and the excitement of artistic experimentation.

When The Spider Queen reaches its conclusion in December, Lynne will look back on this year with satisfaction, knowing she dedicated herself fully to her craft. And fans will have the chance to celebrate alongside her: in February 2025, she will host a live CD release show in Hollywood, showcasing The Spider Queen with a full band.

Until then, “Carry On” invites listeners to experience VK Lynne’s journey firsthand—a testament to artistic resilience, a fusion of genres, and, above all, the unwavering drive to keep moving forward.
