ZAYN (ft. Nicki Minaj) - No Candle No Light | Song Review

ZAYN is a English singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Bradford, West Yorkshire, ZAYN auditioned as a solo contestant The X Factor UK in 2010. After being eliminated as a solo performer, ZAYN was brought back into the competition, along with four other contestants, to form the boy band that would become known as One Direction.

ZAYN later left the group in March 2015 and subsequently signed a solo recording contract with RCA Records. Since then, he has released his debut album 'Mind Of Mine' and a bunch of smash hit singles such as 'Duck Till Dawn', 'Fingers', 'PILLOWTALK' and many others.

He has released his next single called 'No Candle No Light' with the queen of rap herself, Nicki Minaj - surprisingly being their first collaboration.

The Fader called the song a "tropical house bop" and compared its synths to those in 'Sorry' by Justin Bieber. Exclaim! noted the song's "booming EDM beat with ZAYN's trademark emotional croon", and pointed out that Nicki Minaj sings instead of rapping.

This track tells the story of a couple whose relationship has run its course. Starting off with Nicki's unmistakable "Young Money" call, the rapper smoothly slides in with the lyrics. ZAYN's voice is smoother than ever as he continues to sing about the relationship in the following verses. ZAYN and Nicki Minaj then share singing responsibilities om the chorus, vocalising over a sultry beat. I really like it when Nicki sings on a track rather than always rapping.

I really like this song - it isn't too upbeat but it isn't really a slow song either. Nicki could fit on any song and that is one thing I love about her as an artist, and still to this day, she does as many collaborations as she can.
