Little Mix - Joan of Arc | Song Review

Little Mix is a British girl group who was formed in 2011 during the eighth series of The X Factor UK. They were the first group to win the competition and they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music and released a cover of Damien Rice's 'Cannonball' as their winner's single. The group consists of Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.

They have released 4 chart-topping studio albums called 'DNA' (2012), 'Salute' (2013), 'Get Weird' (2015) and 'Glory Days' (2016) and they have also released a Platinum Edition of Glory Days in 2017 which featured 3 new songs - 'Is Your Love Enough?', 'Dear Lover' and 'If I Get My Way'.

Little Mix are also close to releasing their fifth studio album 'LM5' which is set for release on November 16th 2018. Their lead single 'Woman Like Me' featuring Nicki Minaj was a smash hit all over the world, charting high in the Worldwide iTunes Charts.

They have released a Promotional Single for their upcoming studio album called 'Joan of Arc' and as a fan of 7 years, I really like this song. Little Mix has been posting snippets of each song on their Social Media and this upcoming album seems very different from their rest. Each song seems to be different and I love that.

'Joan of Arc' has a strong theme of girl power running through it - which seems to be a common theme on their upcoming album. To be honest, there need to be more female empowerment anthems and that is what Little Mix is all about!

The song was named after a powerful woman from the 1400s who believed that God had chosen her to lead France to victory in its long-running ware with England. On the morning of May 30 1431, at the age of 19, Joan of Arc was taken to the old market place of Rouen and burned at the stake. (read more on HISTORY)

Little Mix have released snippets of what looks like an upcoming music video for the song and they make references to Joan of Arc which I think is very powerful - this song just screams girl power.

My opinion:

I really like this song and I am not saying this because I am a huge fan of the girls. Their new music seems to be going in a new direction and I really like it. It seems more of a mature sound.

If I am honest, I am not a huge fan of the first verse of the song but I LOVE the rest of the song. The lyrics are so catchy and you feel so empowered and sassy when listening to the track. When lip-syncing to this song, you can't help doing sassy actions because that is exactly what this song makes you feel.

Overall, this is a really good song and a very good choice for a promotional single for the album. I have pre-ordered the album and I will be doing a review when it is released! I am excited!

Prodigal - When We Bleed

Prodigal is an Alternative Pop/Rock artist from Finland. The nature of his music is to be an eccentric mix of all the different styles he listens to and creates something catchy, immediate and current out of it all. His new single 'When We Bleed' was released independently ahead of his upcoming debut album. 'When We Bleed' reflects on a world where every decision and action seems to be motivated by blatant narcissism of some kind. Trying to navigate these odd times, the song tries to find relief in numbers and the fact that for better or worse, we're never really alone in trying to make sense of it all.
