Letoa Reworks ‘RAGE QUIT’ With MELODOWNZ and Lames
Samoan Australian artist Letoa joins forces with MELODOWNZ and longtime collaborator Lames on ‘RAGE QUIT (MELO REMIX)’, a high-energy release driven by punchy drums, Memphis phonk influences and three contrasting performances.
The remix holds onto the relentless bounce of the original while opening the track up to a new voice. Letoa and Lames’ existing verses remain untouched, preserving the chemistry that made the first version work, while MELODOWNZ brings his own character to the record.
Each artist approaches the production differently. Letoa delivers his lines with sharp, animated energy, while Lames provides a more laid-back contrast. MELODOWNZ completes the track with a distinctive performance that fits naturally alongside the original pair without simply repeating what has already been done.
Behind its hard-hitting sound, the collaboration also carries personal significance for Letoa. He looked up to MELODOWNZ during the early stages of his career, making their work together a full-circle moment. Following Letoa’s appearance on ‘DAILY BREAD’ from MELODOWNZ’s album BRON, the remix continues a creative relationship that has grown from inspiration into collaboration.
Born Letoaalii Hughes, Letoa is a 22-year-old artist currently based in New Zealand. Born in Suva, Fiji, to a Samoan German mother and an Australian Armenian father, he spent parts of his upbringing in Brisbane and Samoa. Music was always close by, from family radio and freestyle sessions to connections with the Keil Isles Band.
At 16, Letoa performed his first headline show in Samoa alongside his OSKK collective. After moving to Auckland in 2019, his music began reaching an international audience during the 2020 lockdown. His debut EP, Glocstarr V1, and its breakout track ‘ICE COLD’ helped establish him as an early voice within the Aesthetic Rap movement.
Since then, Letoa has remained fully independent while building a career that now includes more than 300 million streams and international touring. His achievements include a Rolling Stone New Zealand Awards nomination for ‘Chiropractor’ and the Arch Angel Independence Award at the 2026 Pacific Music Awards. His music may travel far beyond the Pacific, but his heritage remains central to his identity and approach.
‘RAGE QUIT (MELO REMIX)’ is accompanied by a cinematic black-and-white music video directed by Christian Munokoa. Its footage stretches across Auckland and Los Angeles, with Matavai Taulangau filming Letoa and MELODOWNZ in Auckland while Jack Rottier captures Lames in Los Angeles.
Gothic architecture, gritty city settings and stripped-back backgrounds give the video a dark, focused appearance. Sharp cuts match the pace of the track, while the monochrome treatment creates a shared visual identity across the two locations. Edited by Tung Bui, who previously worked on Letoa’s ‘MEDUSA’ video, the film gives each artist their own space without making the separate shoots feel disconnected.
More than a straightforward update, ‘RAGE QUIT (MELO REMIX)’ develops the original through a collaboration that means something to the artist behind it. It combines Letoa and Lames’ established chemistry with MELODOWNZ’s fresh contribution, turning an already forceful track into a genuine milestone in Letoa’s journey.
